Presently, the average cost of a wedding is more than 1Million naira (appr. $3,500 and above) making it one of the most expensive life events. I could remember a friend of mine’s wedding last year which cost him about 2.8Million Naira. That’s more expensive than some cars and could even buy you a plot of land in fast rising ibeju lekki. We’ve also heard of weddings that cost well above 10Million Naira and some cost even more.
If you don’t have up to a Million Naira to blow, don’t worry, you can still have a stylish, fun, memorable wedding, while saving money at the same time. Here are 12 ways to do just that;

1.Keep the Guest List Small
Although you might want to invite everyone you know to your wedding including your social media friends, that isn’t always a good idea. With each invited guest, you are additional costs while also making your wedding less intimate. It’s okay to keep the guest list to immediate family and try inviting fewer people in order to save as much as you can and making the event more intimate.
Remember, we are looking at ways we can save a lot from our wedding and wedding venue is one I know consumes so much. The wedding venue can be costly, but you can save a lot of money by booking a low-cost venue or getting married on a day other than Saturday. If you have a good backyard or know anyone who does, you might consider using that as well with permission. If you chose this backyard venue style, it’s best you have a backup plan in case of bad weather. That means you have to rent a tent if rain is forecast, or a few industrial fan if the weather is extremely hot.

Several of our friends and family have musical, photography and decoration talent. Asking family and friends to offer help or services that align with their talents in lieu of a gift is a great way to keep your wedding on a budget.

Family owned restaurants are always the first place to check. They will always go the extra mile to make your wedding special and are more understanding of your budget needs. You can also provide foods and drinks yourself by enlisting family and friends to help.

Wedding flowers can be so expensive. If you’re on a budget, Instead of spending so much on flowers that will die shortly after the reception, be smart about what type of flowers you choose and keep it simple but elegant.
Another cheap idea is to go with fake flowers instead. It’s likely that no one will even notice, and you could save a bundle by making them yourself.
6.Be Creative and Stylish With Decorations Without Spending Much
The best way to save money on wedding decoration is to have little fun with it. Get creative and pick a good and beautiful theme. You can ask the help of your friend or family who is good with decoration to help out.
7.Make Your Own Invitations
You can save a lot if you choose to do the invitation yourself or doing part of it. With a quality printer and some time, you can make very classy invitations on your own. Pick a very classy font and simple text to make a stylish invitation that won’t cost you much.

If you don’t want to go the tuxedo route, you can also have all of your groomsmen wear a black suit from home or matching formal wear.

Having a stylist come to you on your big day may be convenient, but costly and a professional makeup can be very expensive. To save on that day, you can buy your own make up and do it yourself. Inviting your friends or family makes your hair and makeup is another good choice.

There will certainly be exchange of rings on the day, but the bride will most likely want to wear a few pieces of jewelry to complement her wedding gown. The best way to avoid spending here is to avoid high-end stores.
